Signs of wear
The first thing we want to note when we’re talking about tires, is the kind of wear that you can identify just by getting a visual inspection done. You want to be looking for over inflation, under inflation, tread wear that is focused on one side of the tire, erratic tire wear, and a raised portion of the tread/side wall. Even when you’re driving, if you are noticing unusual vibrations, or your vehicle pulling to one side, you need to be making note of all of those events. This is a good list to bring to a service center like ours. Our technicians can address your concerns and figure out what might be causing each specific issue.
Once you’ve made note of some of the wearing of your tires, it’s important to get more accurate readings of the wear and wear patterns on your tires. That’s why we always recommend the penny test, which can be done by putting the penny head down into the tire. If you can see all of Abraham Lincoln’s head, then you are likely due for a new set of tires. If you are unsure if your tread meets the threshold or not, we can let you know what we believe the condition of your tires are in, and give you more information.
A key aspect of your tires that is easy to forget about is the inflation levels. Every single vehicle, in the owner’s manual, is given a specific PSI that the tires should stay at. With varying temperatures, that can change the PSI. You could also be dealing with something like a nail in the tire that is causing it to be flat. If you want to check the PSI of your tire, get an air pressure gauge, and check them yourself! We promise it’s an incredibly easy process. We’re more than willing to do it quickly if you need the help.
The last thing we want to mention are the different kinds of tire maintenance that should happen fairly regularly. These procedures include a tire rotation, tire balancing, and wheel alignment. They all make sure that your tires are wearing evenly, and you aren’t having issues like your vehicle to pulling to one side, or any other issues of the same kind.
